Significance of 29th June:



National Statistics Day is observed on 29 June to popularise the use of Statistics in everyday life. The day commemorates the birth anniversary of Prof. P C Mahalanobis. In India, Professor P C Mahalanobis is considered as the 'Father of Modern Statistics'.

 
International Day of the Tropics is observed on 29 June annually to spread awareness about the conservation strategies and to promote tropical regions on Earth. 


1952- The First Miss Universe pageant is held. Armi Kuusela from Finland wins the title of Miss Universe 1952.

2007-  Apple Inc. releases its first mobile phone, the iPhone.

2007- Sachin Tendulkar completed 15,000 ODI runs, in the second match of the Future Cup against South Africa. India won the match by six wickets.

1864- Sir Ashutosh Mukherjee was a Bengali mathematician, lawyer, jurist, judge, educator, and institution builder. He was the first student to be awarded a dual degree from Calcutta University.

1883- Charu Chandra Bhattacharya was a prominent science teacher and writer of various scientific articles mainly for children in Bengali.

1893 - Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis was an Indian scientist and statistician. He is remembered for the Mahalanobis distance, a statistical measure, and for being one of the members of the first Planning Commission of free India.

1901- Rajendra Nath Lahiri was an Indian revolutionary. He was the mastermind behind the Kakori conspiracy and the Dakshineshwar bombing.

1929- The 97th birth anniversary of Late Manorama Maitra who was an educationalist and  the founder of Satish Chandra Memorial School. Her vision and dedication have left an indelible mark on the field of education.

1936- Buddhadeb Guha was an Indian writer of fiction in the Bengali language. Apart from writing, he was a trained singer and a painter too.

1873- Michael Madhusudan Dutta was a Bengali poet, writer, and playwright. He was a pioneer of Bengali drama known for his famous work Meghnad Badh Kavya, a tragic epic.

1946- Sarala Roy was an Indian educator, feminist, and social activist. As President of the All India Women's Conference in 1932, she played a key role in organizing efforts towards women's suffrage, and against child marriage.

1966- Damodar Dharmananda Kosambi was an Indian polymath with interests in mathematics, statistics, philology, history, and genetics. He is also well known for his work in numismatics and for compiling critical editions of ancient Sanskrit texts.

2016-  Kalpathi Ganpath  Subramanyan was  an Indian artist. He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 2012.

Significance of 01st July:
