Significance of 3rd December:

International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) is observed on 3 December to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities. This year 2024, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities Theme is "Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future".



1910- Modern neon lighting is first demonstrated by Georges Claude at the Paris Motor Show.


1959- The current flag of Singapore is adopted, six months after Singapore became self-governing within the British Empire.


1984- Bhopal disaster: A methyl isocyanate leak from a Union Carbide India Limited (UCIL)  pesticide plant in Bhopal, India, kills more than 3,800 people outright and injures tentatively 150,000-600,000 through this worst industrial disaster.


1994- Sony releases the first PlayStation in Japan.


2014- The Japanese space agency, JAXA, launches the space explorer Hayabusa2 from the Tanegashima Space Center on a six-year round trip mission to an asteroid to collect rock samples.

1882- Nandalal Bose was one of the pioneers of modern Indian art and a key figure of Contextual Modernism.


1884- Rajendra Prasad was an Indian politician, lawyer, journalist and scholar who served as the first president of India from 1952 to 1962.


1889- Shaheed Khudiram Bose was an Indian revolutionary who opposed British rule of India. In the Muzaffarpur Conspiracy Case, along with Prafulla Chaki, he was sentenced to death, for the attempted assassination of a British judge, Magistrate Douglas Kingsford, by throwing bombs on the carriage.


1903- Yashpal was a Hindi-language writer, political commentator, a socialist and an essayist. He won the Hindi-language Sahitya Akademi Award for his novel 'Meri Teri Uski Baat' in 1976 and was also a recipient of the Padma Bhushan. 


1907- Prabhas Sarkar was a revolutionary and Bengali labor leader in the anti-British independence movement .


1979- Konkona Sen Sharma, is an Indian actress and filmmaker who works primarily in Bengali and Hindi films. 


1982- Mithali Dorai Raj, is an Indian former cricketer who captained the national team from 2004 to 2022. She is the highest run-scorer in women's international cricket.

1868- Rai Bahadur Hara Chandra Ghosh was one of the prominent leaders of the Young Bengal group.


1903- Girishchandra Vidyaratna was an eighteenth-century scholar, educationist and social reformer. He was a classmate of Vidyasagar.


1938- Sir Brajendra Nath Seal was a Bengali Indian humanist philosopher. He served as the 2nd vice chancellor of Mysore University. He began his career as a lecturer at the Scottish Church College.


1956- Manik Bandyopadhyay was an Indian Bengali novelist and is considered one of the leading lights of modern Bangla fiction. 


1979- Major Dhyan Chand was an Indian field hockey player, widely regarded as one of the greatest field hockey players in history.


1982- Bishnu Dey was a leading Bengali poet, writer, essayist, academician, art appreciator, and connoisseur in the era of modernism and post-modernism.


2011- Dev Anand was an Indian film actor, writer, director and producer known for his work in Hindi cinema. The Government of India honoured him with Padma Bhushan, Indian third highest civilian honour in 2001 and with Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2002.

Significance of 01st July:

National Doctors’ Day is celebrated on 1st July all over India to honour the legendary physician and the second Chief Minister of West Bengal, Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy.
