Significance of 5th July:


Punar Yatra or Bahuda Yatra, the sacred return journey of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra from the Gundicha Temple back to the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri. After spending seven days at the Gundicha Temple, the deities will embark on their homeward journey atop their massive wooden chariots: Nandighosha (Jagannath), Taladhwaja (Balabhadra), and Darpadalan (Subhadra). The actual return journey, filled with devotional music, chants, and the pulling of the grand chariots by thousands of devotees.

2012- The Shard in London is inaugurated as the tallest building in Europe, with a height of 310 metres (1,020 ft).

2016- The Juno space probe arrives at Jupiter and begins a 20-month survey of the planet.

1901- Birendranath Sircar was an Indian film producer and the founder of New Theatres Calcutta. He was awarded the Dada Saheb Phalke Award in 1970.

1946- Ram Vilas Paswan was an Indian politician from Bihar and the Cabinet Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution in the first and second Modi ministries. He took over the charge of the Railway Minister in the Government headed by H D Deve Gowda in June 1996.

1947- Lalji Singh was an Indian scientist who worked in the field of DNA fingerprinting technology in India. He served as the 25th Vice Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University (BHU).

1949- Shivshankar Menon is a retired Indian diplomat of Indian Foreign Service who served as National Security Advisor of India to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. He had previously served as the Foreign Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs. 

1982- Javed Ali is an Indian playback singer who predominantly sings in Hindi. He also hosted Zee TV's singing reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 2012. 

1995- Pusarla Venkata Sindhu is an Indian badminton player. She is the first Indian woman to win two Olympic medals.
