Significance of 16th June:



On the 16 of June of every year since 1606, the Sikhs commemorate the martyrdom of Guru Arjan Dev Ji, the fifth Guru and the first Sikh Martyr. 


1858- Abraham Lincoln delivers his House Divided speech in Springfield, Illinois.

1903- The Ford Motor Company is incorporated.

1911- IBM founded as a   Computing-Tabulating-Recording Company in Endicott, New York.

1925-  Artek, the most famous Young Pioneer camp of the Soviet Union, is established.

1963- Soviet Space Program: Vostok 6 mission: Cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova becomes the first woman in space.

1972- The largest single-site hydroelectric power project in Canada is inaugurated at Churchill Falls Generating Station.

2010- Bhutan becomes the first country to institute a total ban on tobacco.

2012- China successfully launched its Shenzhou 9 spacecraft carrying three astronauts, including the first female Chinese astronaut Liu Yang.

1920- Hemanta Mukhopadhyay was an Indian music director and playback singer who primarily sang in Bengali and Hindi, as well as other Indian languages.

1931- Mandagere Subbarao Krishnamurthy, Kannada writer, and Hindi writer. He was conferred the Tamra Patra award by former President of India, Shankar Dayal Sharma.

1950- Mithun Chakraborty is an Indian actor, film producer, screenwriter, entrepreneur and politician who predominantly works in Hindi and Bengali cinema. He is a former Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament.

1964- Gopal Prasad Sharma is an internationally recognized Indian artist associated with the traditional miniature art of Rajasthan.

1861- Harish Chandra Mukherjee was an Indian journalist and patriot, who fought for the indigo cultivators. He was the editor of the Hindoo Patriot weekly.

1925- Chittaranjan Das called Deshbandhu (Friend of the Nation), was an Indian freedom fighter, political activist and lawyer during the Indian independence movement and founder-leader of the Swaraj Party (Independence party) in Bengal during the period of British colonial rule in India.

1944- Acharya Sir Prafulla Chandra Ray, was an eminent Indian chemist, educationist, historian, industrialist and philanthropist. He established the first modern Indian research school in chemistry and is regarded as the father of chemical science in India. 

2021- Swatilekha Sengupta was a Bengali actress who had received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for her contribution to Indian theatre as an actor.

Significance of 01st July:
