Significance of 5th April:



National Maritime Day in India, observed annually on April 5th, commemorates the maiden voyage of the first Indian-owned merchant ship, the SS Loyalty, from Mumbai to London in 1919, and acknowledges the significance of the maritime sector to India's economy and trade.


The United Nations General Assembly observes the International Day of Conscience to recognise the significance of the human conscience. An essential intellectual characteristic that sets humans apart from the rest of the animal kingdom is the conscience.


Every year on 5th April, the birthday of Babu Jagjivan Ram is celebrated as Samta Diwas (Equality Day). Babu Jagjivan Ram became the Deputy Prime Minister of India in the year 1979.
