শুভ নববর্ষ means “Happy New Year.” This festival is also called Pohela Boishakh, which literally means “the first day of the month of Boishakh,” the opening month of the Bengali calendar. People of Bengali heritage from all across the subcontinent usually celebrate this festival on April 14 or 15. It is a day of fresh starts, where people greet each other with good wishes, exchange sweets, and pay respect to elders.
