World Consumer Rights Day

is observed on 15th March every year for raising global awareness about consumer rights and needs. This day is a chance to demand that the rights of all consumers are respected and protected and to protest against social injustices.




44 BC- The assassination of Julius Caesar takes place.


1564- Mughal Emperor  Akbar abolishes the jizya tax on non-Muslim subjects.


1874 - France and Vietnam sign the  Second Treaty of Saigon, further recognizing the full sovereignty of France over Cochinchina.


1877-  First ever official cricket test match is played: Australia vs England at the  MCG Stadium, in Melbourne, Australia.


1907- The first parliamentary elections of Finland (at the time the Grand Duchy of Finland) are held.

2019-  Approximately 1.4 million young people in 123 countries go on strike to protest climate change.

1901- Guru Hanuman was a legendary wrestling coach of India. He coached many medal-winning wrestlers and was awarded the prestigious Dronacharya Award in 1987.


1904- Annada Shankar Ray was an Indian poet and essayist in Bengali. He also wrote some Odia poetry.


1931- Chandi Lahiri was an Indian author, journalist and cartoonist


1934- Kanshi Ram was an Indian politician and social reformer who worked for the upliftment and politician mobilization of the Bahujans.


1963- Tarun Tejpal is an Indian journalist, publisher, novelist and former editor-in-chief of  Tehelka magazine.


1965- Sunetra Gupta is a novelist and Professor of Theoretical Epidemiology at the University of Oxford with an interest in infectious disease agents that are responsible for malaria, HIV, influenza, and bacterial meningitis. She is also a recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Award for her contributions to Indian literature.


1976- Abhay Deol is an Indian actor and producer.


1977- Jisshu Sengupta is an Indian actor, producer, and television presenter who works in both Bengali and Hindi language films.


1983-  Hirdesh Singh, also known as Honey Singh, is an Indian music director, songwriter, Indi-pop singer, music producer and film actor.


1993- Alia Bhatt is an Indian actress and is counted among the highest-paid actresses in India.

1941- Raghupathi Venkaiah Naidu, mostly recognized as the father of Telugu cinema was an Indian artist and filmmaker who was a pioneer in the production of silent Indian films and talkies.


1985- Professor Radha Krishna Choudhary was a historian, thinker, and writer from Bihar who contributed to the historical and archaeological studies of Bihar as well as to Maithili literature.


1991- Govindan Aravindan was a film director, screenwriter, musician, cartoonist, and painter from Kerala. 


1992- Rahi Masoom Reza was an Indian Urdu and Hindi poet and writer and a  Bollywood lyricist.


2000- Lady Ranu Mukherjee was to become the muse of Rabindranath Tagore in his last years and gave her contribution to the evolution of Bengali theatre.


2006- Paravoor Govindan Devarajan was an Indian music composer and carnatic vocalist.  

His collaborations with Vayalar Ramavarma produced the golden era of Malayalam film music and many of his compositions remain evergreen classics in Malayalam.


2008- Sarla Thukral was among the first Indian women to fly aircraft. She earned an aviation pilot license in 1936 at the age of 21 and flew a  Gypsy Moth solo.

Significance of 01st July:
